Become A Certified Pickleball Coach With Play! Pickle

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in Asia and around the world. As the game continues to grow, there is an increasing need for coaches who can teach safely, clearly, and professionally.

Play! Pickle offers two levels of coaching certification:

Level 1: Technical Foundations
For aspiring coaches who want to learn how to teach pickleball basics, run beginner sessions, and deliver safe, structured lessons.

Level 2: Player Development and Applied Coaching
For certified coaches who want to progress beyond beginner instruction and learn how to develop intermediate players, diagnose errors, coach doubles strategy, manage groups, and prepare players for social and competitive play.

The course is suitable for people who have a passion for teaching, enjoy helping others improve, and want to uphold strong coaching standards.

Certification Pathway

Level 1: Technical Foundations

The Level 1 course is designed for aspiring pickleball coaches who want to learn how to teach the game safely and confidently.

Level 1 is suitable for:

  • Players who want to start coaching pickleball

  • Assistant coaches

  • Sports instructors adding pickleball to their teaching portfolio

  • Players who enjoy helping beginners learn the game

  • Anyone who wants a structured introduction to pickleball coaching

Level 1 Course Format

The Level 1 course may be completed in 3 hours:

  • 1 hour of self-study with our Level 1 Theory Guidebook

  • 2 hours of practical training with our Head Coach

Upon completion, you will be awarded a certificate, be listed on our Certified Coaches Directory, and may be considered for coaching assignments.

Level 1 Course Requirements

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be 18 years or older

  • Have a minimum of 6 months' playing experience and/or coaching experience from other sports.

  • Be comfortable demonstrating beginner-level strokes

  • Be willing to learn Play! Pickle’s coaching standards

Level 1 Cost Of Certification

SGD 350 for the full course, including the guidebook and practical training.

Level 2: Player Development and Applied Coaching

The Level 2 course is designed for coaches who have completed Level 1 and are ready to coach beyond beginner fundamentals.

While Level 1 focuses on how to teach the basic game, Level 2 focuses on how to develop better players.

Level 2 coaches learn how to observe more carefully, diagnose errors, run better group sessions, teach doubles strategy, coach intermediate players, and prepare players for social play, open play, DUPR-style sessions, and friendly competitions.

Level 2 is suitable for:

  • Play! Pickle Level 1 certified coaches

  • Coaches already teaching beginner classes

  • Coaches who want to lead intermediate group classes

  • Coaches who want to improve their error correction and feedback

  • Coaches who want to coach doubles strategy and court positioning

  • Coaches preparing to assist with clinics, events, open play, and competitive sessions

Level 2 Course Format

The Level 2 course includes:

  • Level 2 course handbook equivalent to 2 hours of self-study.

  • 2-hour practical course delivery with a Lead Coach

  • On-court coaching demonstrations

  • Error diagnosis and correction practice

  • Doubles strategy and group coaching practice

  • Practicum-style coaching assessment

Level 2 Course Requirements

To be eligible, you should:

  • Have completed Play! Pickle Coaching Certification Course Level 1

  • Have a minimum of 12 months' playing experience

  • Be able to demonstrate core pickleball skills

  • Have some experience assisting or teaching beginner players

  • Be willing to receive feedback and refine your coaching

Level 2 Cost Of Certification

SGD 400 for the full Level 2 course, including the guidebook, practical training, and assessment.

How To Get Started For Level 2

Level 1: Technical Foundations

Module 1: Introduction To Pickleball Coaching

Module 2: Fundamentals Of Pickleball

  • Basic strokes and techniques

  • Serve, return, dink, volley, groundstroke, and simple rally skills

Level 2: Player Development and Applied Coaching

Module 1: Advanced Shot Development

Coaches learn how to teach and correct higher-level shots, including third-shot drops, third-shot drives, resets, block volleys, counter volleys, roll volleys, lobs, overheads, kitchen attacks, and spin control.

Module 2: Error Diagnosis and Correction

Coaches learn how to identify the real cause of player mistakes instead of only correcting the visible error. This includes contact point, paddle angle, footwork, timing, recovery, shot selection, and pressure-related errors.

Module 3: Intermediate Player Development

Coaches learn how to help players move from basic rallying to purposeful play. This includes consistency, shot selection, transition play, soft game development, controlled aggression, doubles awareness, and confidence in social play.

Module 4: Doubles Strategy and Court Positioning

Coaches learn how to teach doubles movement, partner spacing, middle coverage, return and advance, third-shot decision-making, kitchen positioning, communication, and basic match strategy.

Module 5: Group Coaching and Class Management

Coaches learn how to manage group classes, mixed-level groups, rotations, station-based drills, player engagement, time management, and safe court organisation.

Module 6: Coaching Communication At A Higher Level

Coaches learn how to give clearer cues, ask better questions, correct without overwhelming players, support nervous or frustrated players, and communicate effectively in private lessons, group classes, and game play.

Module 7: Session Design For Different Goals

Coaches learn how to design sessions for beginners, intermediate players, social play preparation, competitive doubles, kids, seniors, corporate workshops, private lessons, and guided open play.

Module 8: Video Analysis and Player Assessment

Coaches learn how to observe players more accurately, use video responsibly, assess technical and tactical patterns, and create simple player development plans.

Module 9: Coaching Different Player Profiles

Coaches learn how to adapt their coaching for nervous beginners, athletic beginners, tennis players, seniors, juniors, social players, competitive players, overthinkers, low-confidence players, and mixed-level groups.

Module 10: Competitive Play Preparation

Coaches learn how to prepare players for match play, DUPR-style sessions, round robins, tournaments, pressure points, partner communication, and post-match review.

Module 11: Safety, Load Management, and Injury Prevention

Coaches learn how to manage warm-ups, fatigue, court safety, player load, heat, hydration, drill intensity, player modifications, and basic incident response.

Module 12: Coaching Practicum and Assessment

Coaches complete practical coaching tasks, including lesson planning, error diagnosis, group coaching, doubles strategy instruction, communication assessment, safety awareness, and coaching reflection.

Do I need to complete Level 1 before Level 2?

Yes. Level 2 is designed as a progression from Level 1.

Coaches should complete Play! Pickle Coaching Certification Course Level 1 before taking Level 2, unless special approval is given based on prior coaching experience.


What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2?

Level 1 teaches you how to coach the fundamentals of pickleball.

Level 2 teaches you how to develop players beyond the basics.

Level 2 includes advanced shot development, error diagnosis, intermediate player development, doubles strategy, group coaching, video analysis, competitive preparation, and practical coaching assessment.
