Regional Showdowns: The New Amateur Pathway to Major League Pickleball
Major League Pickleball just opened the door for every amateur who dreams of competing on the big stage.
In a new partnership with Minor League Pickleball (MiLP), MLP presented by DoorDash has introduced Regional Showdowns, amateur team events that will run alongside select pro tournaments throughout 2026. These showdowns give everyday players the chance to play the same team format as the pros, earn leaderboard points, and even qualify for national championships.
It’s the clearest pathway yet from local courts to the professional level.
What are the Regional Showdowns?
The Regional Showdowns are amateur competitions held in a four-player coed team format (two women, two men) or the three-player MiLP v3 gendered format. They follow official MiLP team rules and take place at the same venues as MLP pro events. Matches count toward the MiLP National Leaderboard, with bonus points for strong finishes.
How They Integrate with MLP events
Instead of creating separate amateur tournaments, MiLP Regional Showdowns will run directly alongside 2026 MLP pro stops. This creates a true “pro-am” atmosphere where amateurs and professionals share the same courts and crowd energy.
Benefits for Amateurs
Open to all ages and skill levels with DUPR-based divisions
Option to play independently or under an MLP Minor League team
Division winners earn a “Dream Ticket” to the 2027 MiLP National Championships
Chance to compete for prize money and national recognition
“This partnership is about community first,” said Waseem Mansoor, Director of Team Business & Operations at MLP. “We’re unifying and supporting development, visibility, and the long-term growth of the sport.”
2026 Schedule
The first Regional Showdowns will kick off at these MLP events:
May 22–25 — Dallas, TX
May 28–31 — Columbus, OH
June 11–14 — Austin, TX
June 25–28 — New York, NY

A New Path for Every Player
For the first time, the same team format that powers Major League Pickleball is now available to amateurs at the exact same events. Whether you’re a weekend warrior, a rising club player, or someone who’s always wondered “what if,” the Regional Showdowns give you a real shot at the big stage.
Play! Pickle is your local starting point, find nearby courts, join beginner leagues, or get coached so you’re ready when the Regional Showdowns come to a venue near you.
