They cheer louder for your points than their own. Even when your shot was… questionable. And they say “nice!” with a smile that lingers half a second too long.

They always seem to end up on your side during mixed doubles. Coincidence? Maybe. But they also keep offering to “cover your back” with suspiciously good timing.

3. The Post-Game Chat

The rally ends and suddenly they’re asking about your weekend plans, your favourite restaurant, or whether you’re free for coffee “sometime.” Not “let’s play again”, actual non-pickleball plans.

They mock your missed dinks… but in that soft, affectionate way that feels more like flirting than trash talk.

During water breaks. Between points. When you’re both waiting for the next game. That brief moment where the court goes quiet and you both just… look.
